A Visit

James and I hopped on the plane to California to visit Mr. Sir this past weekend. It was a really nice trip with hikes, seafood, parks, the beach and just hanging out. Here is a picture montage from our visit.

The beach.

A short hike.

Looking over the harbor from a scenic viewpoint.

James checking out the boats.

He loved the dolphin. It was the perfect size for him.

Capes, bruises, and soul-sucking horns.

About 4 times a year my sister and her other half host a LARP (Live Action Role Play) in the woods on their property, appropriately named "The Myth Wood". Essentially there are characters, quests, storylines, and lots of lots of foam weapons to beat each other with. This was just a short explanation.

I was asked to make some capes for the LARP. They wanted something short and loose so that it was possible to fight in them and they most definitely had to be green. The dark green fabric was originally a table cloth and the light green fabric was, once upon a time, window blinds. I was able to get three capes out of the fabric. I made the capes reversible so they are multipurpose.

My character is a Succubus. Meaning that I can suck the soul of a living person making them my thrall (ie. throw a ball at them) and then I cannot die until my thrall dies. So I can run into the fray and cause as much chaos as possible. It is awesome. My sister is a Succubus too and she decided that the colors for the succubi should be red and black. So I showed up wearing this.

I made the corset a few years ago and haven't had a chance to wear it yet. So I was really excited to wear it for something. Honestly, I feel a little bit silly wearing it in public. I also made a set of horns to go with the costume. The horns are made out of a headband, red felt, and cardboard from a cereal box. Oh, and sequins to make it glittery. Perfect for a soul-sucking Succubus.

I am sore, covered in bruises, and full of fight stories.

Yes, it was worth it.

Look Up! Go out and live, look up from the screen.

Watch this video. It is only five minutes long and so worth it.

Look Up! The Social Media Video going crazy viral

I am guilty of this and if you are reading this so are you. Here's to posting this blog and shutting off the TV and computer. James wants to play.

Go live, go love and look away from that screen.

Pictures of the Recently Enjoyed Springtime

Spring is here. Even in Minnesota we can finally say that it is springtime. When the 'official' spring rolled around on March 20th, I could just see Minnesotan's rolling their eyes and saying "Yeah, right." If I recall, I am pretty sure it snowed that day. Or sometime near that day.

Now though, now it is spring. Last week I think it almost got up to 70 degree's. Today it was cold, below freezing , I think it was around 30 degrees. Hey, it's Minnesota though, we are scheduled to get back up to 73 by next Monday. Such is the life.

Enough about the weather though. Now for some cute toddler pictures. I know I post about James a lot, but hey, where else am I supposed to show off this adorable face?

I came home from work one morning, after working an overnight shift. This is what I saw when I entered the bedroom. It melted my heart.

 Enjoying the springtime with Grandma.

And with cool uncles, who let James get close to the puddles.

(Just look at those adorable cowboy boots.....)

Mr. Sir, James and I went on a date to the city. Going for walks along the Mississippi wear a little guy out. He fell asleep on daddy's lap at the restaurant. Slept there for a good 15 minutes.

Bitten by the bug... the sewing bug.

My sewing time usually comes in spurts. I can go a couple of weeks without setting foot into my sewing room. (Unless it is stacking empty boxes in the middle of the floor.) Then, I get bitten by the sewing bug.

This bug dictates that I spend hours upon hours on Pinterest looking up tutorials and ideas, then I will push all those boxes against one wall to spend all of the free time that I am alloted (with an energetic baby) in my sewing room. Whipping out project after project.

Right now I have multiple ideas in my head for projects to work on. One of these is part of an outfit for St. Patrick's day. I plan on celebrating the luck o' the Irish with my sisters on Saturday. One of them is hosting their annual St. Patrick's day party that I have never actually gone to. Always time for a first! Anyways, I have been holding on to a shapeless green celtic dress for a while to upcycle it into something. I have some ideas, just need to get them done. Hopefully I finish by Saturday. Oh, and I didn't mention that Saturday happens to be my 23rd birthday. Nothing better than a new top for a new year!

I have also been looking at really cute little boy clothes on Pinterest too. Both for little James and my twin nephews Tim and Tom. They turned 4 in February. That perfect age where they are adorable in everything. Especially frozen blueberry juice, and mud. So looking at Pinterest has been inspiring me to create cute little boy clothes for them. We will see what comes out of the sewing room. It might turn out and it might not.

Well, lift your glass to some inspiration headed my way.

More to come....until then.

Future Doctor

*Cue dramatic TARDIS music*

whoooo wheeeeeeee whoooo wheeeeeee whooo wheeeee

I am a Doctor Who fan. Yes, I am. I like the 'new fangled' doctors but I do enjoy a throwback day to the old doctors. Mr. Sir is not so easily impressed by sonic screwdrivers and old faded police boxes. So its a good thing that I dress James most days.

My sister got James this "Future Doctor" outfit a while ago, and he has worn it a few times. But today he wanted to climb into this box with his drumstick. I had to take pictures!

My little man, in his little blue box.

"Geronimo!" Or should I say "Allon-sy!"

Another beginning.

One thing I love about beginnings, is that you can have as many of them as you like. You can start a project, start a meal, start a new career; it is all up to you. Right now in this family's life, beginnings are a big thing. We are starting a ton of them.

This time, I started my own new beginning. My new job is at an assisted living center as a care specialist. Caring for the elderly. Toileting, bathing, feeding, reminiscing, cleaning, etc. I have been thinking about doing healthcare for some time now but never made the jump. It was never on my list because well frankly, I am not a big fan of bodily fluids. Snot, vomit, pee, poop.... not a big fan. But really its not that bad. Dealing with that kind of stuff is an acquired thing. I found that out after having a baby and changing diaper after diaper and cleaning up baby vomit. It is not so bad, just deal with it and move on. Like many other things in life.

I am starting my 3rd week this week at work which is why it has been so slow on the blog. I love it so far. Knowing that my job is making the quality of life better for those lovely ladies makes it worth it.

Just thought to give you an update. And while we are updating things......
James is 10 months old! He gets into all sorts of trouble.

Ice Crystals- Beauty in the details

Jack Frost has been nipping at my nose.... and my window. Mr. Sir, James and I watched "Rise of the Guardians". It was a really adorable movie. So when I saw this frost on my window I immediately thought of that movie.

Sometimes beauty really is in the details. I had to take pictures and share.

Zoo animals that criticize my Hoo-Ha

When James was born we got some zoo animal suction stickies for the bottom of the bathtub. I intended to just use them as toys, until we moved into an apartment with an extremely slick bathtub. After nearly doing the splitz a few times, and having Mr. Sir very nearly take a chunk of his skull out  I installed them into the bathtub.

Well, as I was showering one day I looked down and the first thing I encountered was this...
I can just hear the hippo saying, "Oh, dear!" Of course, after that I see this, the jaw dropping giraffe....
and the surprised panda bear....
and then the appalled monkey...
oh, can't forget the shocked cat...
Sorry about the sideways pictures, blogspot keeps turning them.

These zoo animals are just GREAT for my self-esteem as they criticize my hoo-ha every time I shower.

Oh, well, it's a good thing their opinion doesn't matter. *wink*
