Jean Rag Quilt

So for the first time in a long time I have actually finished a quilt. I love to quilt but it is very time consuming.

I started this rag jean quilt when I was pregnant with James. That was when I found that I really don't want to be on the floor snipping the seams at 8 months pregnant. I like the quilt, it was a good use of old jeans, but it took me a total of about 6 hours to snip all the seams. For how small of a quilt it is, by the time I got to the end I was going to go snip crazy.

The front is all recycled jeans, along with a pair of tan cordoroys thrown in. The back is just brown flannel.

I intend to keep it in the car, to be able to just throw around when needed. When fixing the car, on the ground in the summer time, to protect the seat. You know, a throw.

But all in all, I like it a lot and am just mostly glad that it is finally finished and out of my 'in progress' pile.

Owl quilt and funky moster doll.

One day a few weeks ago, I got the urge to create. I didn't know what I wanted to make but just started cutting and sewing. I came up with this funky monster doll. Stuffed with some poly-fil and has fake pearl button eyes. I thought she was a cute little monster.

This owl panel I found on a sale table at a fabric store over a year ago. I knew that I wanted to do this with it. Just hadn't finished it yet. It is just a cute panel that I quilted with my machine. I love it and gave it and the monster to Bug (my 5 year old niece) for Christmas.

Christmas For the Family

Last weekend we had Christmas with my side of the family and this year I decided to make a few of my Christmas gifts. First off, I made this wall hanging for my sister and her family.




Then about two years ago, that same sister gave me the recieving blankets from her little twin boy's to make quilts out of. So I came up with these quilts. Took a while but they are big enough for the boys to use for quite a few years.We have puppies on the green one and monkeys on the other one. I did a 'quilt as you go' pattern where I stacked and slashed the blocks, quilted the individual blocks and then put sashing in the middle to put the quilt together. I probably won't do it again for a while but it was fun.

Fabric Book Covers

On Monday I have a Christmas Party for my quilt guild and it took me ages to figure out what I wanted to give for a gift. Sure I could go out and buy a 20 dollar quilty gift but that would defeat the purpose of being in a quilting guild. I also like to create useful gifts. Today I had been talking to Mr. Sir about how I needed to make a few covers for our books. So perfect. Also, if any of them happen to see this blog, well they know what will be in my package!

I used the Little Bits- Paperback Book Covers pattern by Cindi Edgerton. It was a lot of fun and really simple. I hope my giftee enjoys it!

Sew Batik Lap Quilt

Sew this is my lapquilt. Yea yea yea, bad pun I know. This was a kit that I won at a Quilt guild christmas party a few years ago that I had never gotten around to making. 

The kit is from Sew Batik (http://www.sewbatik.com). I have known the owners, Bruce and Diane for years and they are the sweetest people you could ever meet and have an uncanny eye for awesome batiks. I haven't put the batting or the back on this quilt yet and I don't really plan to for a while. So I just decided to post the top.
