Woodland Romper

Haven't made too much lately. But I found this adorable woodland fat quarter at a Quilt Show that I just couldn't pass up. I only had a fat quarter, not enough for the whole thing but I think that I like it better this way.

It was just a simple romper pattern that I had. It is a size 2T which is why it is pretty baggy on my little 17 month old. But this way he can wear it for quite a while!

Of course, I can't post to the blog without a couple of selfies.

Little Baby Hat and a New Afghan

I guess I skipped the month of September, and almost the entire month of October. I haven't really been working on much besides Christmas presents though. Those always get posted after Christmas anyways.

But there is nothing like good news to make me want to post! Mr. Sir and I are expecting a baby! It is due around April 1st. I also joined a small community sewing group. Most people in there don't know how to sew at all so it is just basic sewing projects but still a lot of fun. So I sew with them along with my County Quilt Guild.

For the last community sewing meeting the theme was baby hats. So of course I jumped right on board to make my little baby a hat. No we don't know the sex of the baby. I just chose blue because it was on hand. If we happen to have a little girl, I will either hold on to it or give it as a gift to some adorable little baby boys I know.

Then Mr. Sir and I went to the thrift store in search of a new nice hoodie for him to wear and ran across a couple of baby afghans. This green one below is really soft, made with high quality yarn and is a decent size. We got it for 2.50. I think about how much work went into making it and love it all over again. This was our official first purchase for baby. I was gonna try staying away from green because we are finding out the sex when it is born but I couldn't pass up the softness.

Happy Halloween!

Sew Batik Rayon Top

I had fabric left over after making my 'Goin' to convention dress' so I made a 'Goin' to convention top' for those quilt show days when I just want to wear a pair of khakis instead of dolling up in my dress. I drafted it myself and had to do some interesting altering after I put it on me. I tried making it out of muslin first before using my good fabric. But me, not thinking, forgot that the muslin doesn't drape the same and almost cried when I put it on because it looked so bad (btw, muslin does NOT make a very good cowl neckline). I figured it out though, and I would have to say it isn't too bad. It is very comfortable too. The fabric is designed by Sew Batik and it is a comfy flowy rayon.

What do you think?

This is without the belt for the dress.

But I think that I like it better with the belt!

A work in progress.

The Tube Top Type Tee

I know the title of this post is kinda corny and weird but hey, so am I. Anyways this is some of my experimenting. I am not the biggest fan of how it turned out. A little too baggy I think, but that's no problem. That is easily fixable, as long as it isn't too small.

I grew up in 4-H going to the Minnesota state fair year after year. So did my husband. Every year they distribute Fleet Farm T-shirts. If you lived at the state fair for almost a month like we did, we got 4 t-shirts a year. That adds up to a lot of t-shirts. Together we probably had more than 30 at one point. Over time though our favorites have gotten worn thin and turned into rags, or handed down to people, OR made into other types of clothing......like this.

This is my attempt at making a tube top out of my Fleet Farm T-shirt. They are made out of a heavier knit so it is a little bulky. Still working on the details. This is what I have so far though. I might add a layer of white across the bottom as a ruffle to give it length, and maybe define the waist so that I don't have to wear a belt. We will see though. For now, it is fine.

Summer Dress

I made a lovely new dress to wear this summer. The idea comes from a dress my sister bought off of Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/FOHandkerchiefF-908-Flower-Leaves-Handkerchief-Adjustable/dp/B005521KMA/ref=sr_1_5?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1338146216&sr=1-5) Which I promptly fell in love with and decided that I didn't need to spend 25 dollars plus shipping to get an equivalent style. So here it is. It is not perfect because I just kinda eyeballed it the whole time but it is sure comfy. Not quite finished either, Need to add a focal point to the dress somewhere. Still am figuring out what though. Maybe a big shiny brooch where the neck V's. Any suggestions?

Sew Batik Dress

A month ago I started working for a company called Sew Batik selling their fabric at quilt conventions, so in honor of my new job, I took some of their fabric and sewed myself a 'goin to convention' dress. It is a Simplicity Pattern.

Comfy cozy woolen vest.

One of our projects in class was to see our construction on at vest.
I used a gray wool on the outside and the same lining as my pants for the inside
(I actually bought the lining for the vest but had way too much
of it so I used it for the pants)
I need to add a clasp to the front. It will be a toggle clasp,
I need to find the perfect one first though.
The vest works great over my white button up shirt. It was tricky because the pattern was bogus but it worked out!.
So here it is, my comfy cozy woolen vest.

Pants!

When I was in college we drafted a pair of pants and I am almost done with mine,
just got to put the button on the front.
I love the fabric, its black and gold and all zigzaggy.
The fabric is kind of hard to photograph so cut me some slack. (hehe)
They are also lined. The lining makes them kind of heavy so they will make great warm winter dress pants. So here they are... the Pants!

My Dad's Christmas-Father's Day-Birthday Present

Alrighty then, So before Christmas time I decided to make my dad a dress shirt.
Not quite knowing how much work it would be and starting about oh I don't know 2 or 3 weeks before Christmas.
Doing finals and finishing up everybody else's christmas presents.
I kind of got sidetracked and ended up giving him the pattern, fabric, and a spool of thread telling him what I was making and assuring him that it would be done sometime soon.
Ok, so seven months later isn't exactly 'soon' but hey I was busy and I wanted to be sure that it was perfect.
And trust me, every bitty seam on that thing I wouldn't have any other way.
It was made especially for my Daddy.
And I made it red to match all of his crazy awesome ties to wear to the Quilt Conventions.
So everybody! This is my Daddy.
Love you Dad!
This is in my mom's booth at the quilt show that they are currently attending. You should check out her work! This link will bring you to her website. I promise, this stuff is awesome. Quilted in Clay

The shirt on my back

I finished this shirt last December and I finally finished putting buttons on it! I love it and wear it to work all the time. I made it in class, and am very proud of it.
